About the Park

Kibale Forest National Park is located in the Western Part of Uganda close to the busy town of Fort Portal. The Park is famously known to offer remarkable chimpanzee tracking Adventures to all travelers on safari in Uganda. The Park has more than 5000 chimpanzees that are trekked and found in the green vegetation habitat. The Park has various communities of chimpanzees which share 98.8 % DNA with humans hence are fond of doing activities that are related to those of humans. The chimpanzees in the park as trekked in groups of 8 with lead park ranger guides who inform travelers about the life styles of the chimpanzees as well as their natural forest habitats. 


Kibale Forest National Park is globally recognized as a national park in western Uganda with stunning primates that are trekked and watched here on holiday vacation. The Park covers an area of 766–795 square kilometers and lies at the base of Mountain Rwenzori seating at an altitude between 1,100 m and 1,600 m above sea level. It is close to Queen Elizabeth National Park with tropical rainforest, woodlands, swamps and open grassland.  


The park is home to 13 primate species with the most prominent ones being chimpanzees i.e over 1,500 individuals that are allocated into various communities. The chimpanzees are fully habituated for tourism and research making chimpanzee tracking highly successful and enjoyable. Other primate species you can watch include; the rare L’Hoest’s monkey, endangered red colobus, black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed monkey, olive baboon.


Other than primates, travelers can watch various mammals too which include; Forest elephants, Buffaloes, giant forest hogs, duikers, bush pigs, bushbuck

Kibale Forest National Park close to the Ndali-Kasende Crater Lakes are every independent traveller’s dream with a combination of accommodation, easy access, wonderful scenery and remarkable variety of activities. The park has many forest birds, chimpanzees as well as other primates and wildlife animals fond of wandering around their habitat. 


Birdlife


The Park also inhabits various species of birds i.e more than 370 bird species which include; Albertine Rift endemics like the Nahan’s francolin, 

Colorful species like great blue turaco, African grey parrot, and green-breasted pitta. Other faunal species like butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, and many invertebrates also thrive in the lush swampy ecosystems.
